Palma Coyor is a local artesian water product in its early stages of development, originating from the Valley of Collores. Our goal was to capture the beauty of this source and create a brand that conveys a sense of premium quality while taking you on a refreshing journey through Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico. Rather than evoking the colonial era of Puerto Rico, we drew inspiration from an earlier time when native Puerto Rican parrots thrived in their natural habitat, nourished by the small fruits of the Coyor palm tree. This pristine setting is the foundation that inspired the brand’s name, Palma Coyor. To further embrace this challenge, we designed bespoke typography to reflect the artisanal essence of the brand.
In Puerto Rico, there are around seven neighborhoods named Collores. From Las Piedras to Juana Díaz, the name Collores is widely used. However, the origin of this toponym is not commonly known.
It turns out that the word "Collores" comes from the Arawak word "coyor," an indigenous term that refers to a palm tree native to Puerto Rico. The fruit of this palm, which has a very hard seed similar to corozo, is used to make beads, buttons, rings, and other ornaments (source: El Habla Campesina del País by Manuel Álvarez Nazario).
The abundance of this palm tree in these neighborhoods is the reason for the toponym Collores.
